MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma’s order for chole bhature for her husband, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, reportedly helped transform the fortunes of a small Mumbai restaurant that was once struggling under heavy debt.

The restaurant, named “Dilli Se,” was reportedly facing a debt of around INR 1.8 million (18 lakh) in 2022, with its owners considering shutting down the business.

The situation reportedly changed after comedian Abhishek Upmanyu praised the restaurant’s chole bhature on Instagram. Following the post, Anushka Sharma ordered the dish for Virat Kohli and later praised the restaurant on social media.

According to the restaurant’s owners, Anushka’s social media post brought a sudden surge of customers, significantly increasing the restaurant’s popularity and sales.

The owners claim that the business has since expanded to four outlets, selling around 3,000 plates every day. They further claim that the restaurant’s monthly sales have reached approximately INR 20 million (2 crore).

The restaurant’s story has since gained attention as an example of how a single social media mention by a celebrity can dramatically increase visibility for a small business.
