ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the arrest of Aleema Khanum, sister of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and demanded her immediate release.

In a statement, the party alleged that Aleema Khanum was taken into custody outside her residence and described the arrest as unlawful.

PTI said the arrest was aimed at creating further tension and worsening the prevailing situation. The party maintained that Aleema Khanum had been raising her voice over matters concerning her brother, including his detention, alleged solitary confinement and access to medical care.

The party also questioned the government’s position on the protection of women, asking why an elderly woman and the sister of an imprisoned former prime minister was arrested outside her home.

According to PTI, the arrest could further escalate tensions, while the party alleged that the government was deliberately creating a situation that could lead to confrontation.

PTI has demanded Aleema Khanum’s immediate release, information about her whereabouts and her production before a competent court.

The party also called for an end to what it described as pressure and intimidation against Imran Khan’s family and said those responsible for the arrest would be held accountable.
