ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold local government elections in Punjab on February 7, 2027. The elections will be conducted in phases across the province.
A four-member bench of the Election Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, heard the case regarding local government elections in Punjab.
During the hearing, the Chief Secretary Punjab informed the commission that the provincial government had requested that the local government elections be held in January or February 2027. However, the provincial government had earlier recommended conducting the elections in April 2027.
The Chief Secretary cited smog, severe fog, adverse weather conditions, Ramadan, and the unavailability of teachers as reasons for the proposed delay in holding the elections.
Following the proceedings, the Election Commission decided to hold the Punjab local government elections on February 7, 2027, in a phased manner.
